Background:

As a child, Max resided on the USS DarkMaiden, a specialist scientific vessel conducting short range research on the Borg collective. Kate Dawson fell pregnant during the mission, and Max Thomas was born far from home. During a routine sensor sweep of a borg cube, the DarkMaiden's warp core spiked, alerting the borg cube to their presence, and was swiftly assimilated. All on board were assimilated, and served the borg as drones. Max grew and was educated and trained in slipstream mechanics, and served the collective primarily as a technician, but quickly assimilated knowledge and skills concerning operations and stellar cartography.
After spending 6 years with the Borg, Max was one of only 3 who were liberated from the collective after a scout ship crash landed on Marcos 4, severing his link to the hive mind. Several days later, a group of aliens known as the Camparians discovered the three drones, and with their advanced technology in medicine, were able to give Max his life back, removing over 90% of the implants from his body. The Camparians returned Max to the Alpha quadrant, where under a special Starfleet task force, carefully educated Max back into the Starfleet way of life. Max chose to specialize in Warp theory, aided by his knowledge of slip stream. Max also widened his expertise on Stella Cartography, as was given his first post onboard the USS constitution, serving as assistant Chief Science Officer. Promoted to Chief Science Officer and transferred to the USS Akagi, Max swiftly made his way up the ranks to Executive Officer, serving Captain Jeff Murdock on the Akagi. Transferred to the Eclipse, with the rank of Lt Commander, and Positions of Chief Engineer and Second Executive Officer.

All though once withdrawn, Max has gained the confidence to see beyond his past, and re-find his individuality. His sense of humor is not always on the same level as everyone else's, but takes his work incredibly seriously, and prides himself on his accomplishments.
